Today we decided to take a mini vacation and drive up north of the city to Ellijay and
Dawsonville and pick some apples and get a pumpkin. We left around 1:30 this afternoon and drove towards Ellijay. On our way we passed this really random little castle (and I mean like smaller than a house but big enough to take up a small plot of land) with little dwarfs like snow white stationed all around it...it was one of the most random things we saw and we were really confused by it. We then stopped to eat at a Zaxbys because I had never been there before. We had a yummy lunch as shown below then headed to 575 to go up to Ellijay. It was quite a beautiful ride and we had fun laughing at different signs and different things as we drove. Streets and Trips told us to turn the wrong way at one point (well in the programs mind it was
the right way b/c the address we were going towards was sorta on that street as well) and so we had a nice little scenic drive out of our way for around 40 min but it was fun and really high up so it gave us some really nice views. (see pic showing a little fog.) We finally decided to turn around b/c the area though it was pretty was proving not to have any apple farms along the road and as we drove towards Burt's pumpkin
farm we realized that the numbers were the same on the east side of the hwy as the west (to explain you turn off hwy 5 and can turn left which goes west on 52 or right which goes east). So we ended up finally finding hillcreast apple farm. It was so much fun and though we didn't have time at that point to see if we could pick our own apples we had lots of fun picking through the large tubs of apples (and all kinds we got 6 different kinds of apples) and planning what we were going to do with them when we got home. We do regret that we weren't able to spend more time at Hillcrest but we now know where it is and will most deff be back there next year to get more apples. We got 1/2 a bushell for
$10 and you can see Caleb with the bag of apples in one of the pictures! From there we got on the road again and drove to Burt's pumpkin farm which we have heard so much about for the past couple of years and I have wanted to go but we never had time. It was really fun. They had soooooo many pumpkins there and so many different kinds as well as colors of pumpkins I had never seen. My fav part was the 75 lb pumpkins that I can't imagine what anyone would do with! Though we didn't get to go on the hayride (we could not justify the price without our cute nephew) we did wander around in the cold (it was in the low 60s today)
looking at guards, squash, indian corn, small, middle and large pumpkins, white pumpkins, hay...you name it there was alot of fun stuff to look at. You can kinda see the rows of pumpkins behind me in the picture but it doesn't do it justice. Finally we decided to check out and took our wheelbarrow up to the check out line (you had to be 15 to drive one :p ). In line Caleb found peanut brittle and I found boiled peanuts (yummy!!!) they also had pumpkin pie, bread, rolls, popcorn and popcorn balls, apple friters, pecan rolls and so much more but we were good and stuck with our two goodies. After the pumpkin farm we headed home (after a little detour b/c I couldn't read the direction right). We thought about stopping in
Dahlonega but decided that we shouldn't do that without Chad and Cherise to show us around so we found our way back to 400 and headed down to our house. On our way home and since it was dinner time
we stopped at our fav asian resurant that we hardly get to eat at anymore b/c it is out of our way from where we live. They had redone the place and their menu which is fun and so now we are determined to go more often especially b/c it seems they do not get a whole lot of business which we can't figure out b/c it is really nice, the food is pretty cheap but at the same the time food is the best we have found so far. Now we are home, have eaten, talked to Caleb's parents and Nick and are looking forward to a really nice and quiet rest of our weekend! Oh and here are the spoils from our trip...Caleb is really sad b/c on the way home his pumpkin lost it's top which is what he liked most about it...I think I'm going to try and glue it back on!!
